How to keep your whites looking their brightest without the use of bleach: 7 Natural methods

We at KindFamily know that bleach can be harmful, not only to your skin but also to the environment. So how do you keep your whites looking as fresh & bright as the day you bought them?

These natural methods (most of which you probably already have in your household) will help you lift stains & odours, so you can look & feel your best at any ceremony, place of healing work, or in your everyday life.

1. Lemons:

Presoak your laundry with lemons. Fill a sink or tub with water & add 1-2 sliced lemons, depending on how soiled your whites are. Add in your clothes & let soak for 1-2 hours before washing as normal in your washing machine.

If your clothes need an extra boost, boil the water first, add lemons & leave them to soak overnight

2. Vinegar:

Distilled white vinegar is one of the tried & true all-purpose useful cleaners. Not only can it clean your windows, but it helps brighten your whites while keeping the fabric soft & removing any mildew or musty smells.

How to use: during the last rinse cycle of the washing machine, add in ¼ cup of vinegar.

If your whites need a bit more attention, soak in a sink or tub of warm water with 1 cup of white vinegar before laundering.

3. Hydrogen Peroxide:

This medicine-cabinet staple is not only useful for disinfecting cuts & scrapes, but it also makes a great laundry whitener. When starting a load of whites, pour 1 cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide straight into the detergent or bleach dispenser & wash as usual.

Bonus - remove those ugly underarm stains with hydrogen peroxide & baking soda:

Make a paste of equal parts hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, & water. Cover the stains with ¼” of paste & let sit for 30 mins to one hour. Gently remove any extra residue with a soft brush & throw into the laundry.

4. Baking Soda:

Baking soda is another one of the best multi-purpose cleaners. It’s safe & gentle enough to be used to clear drains, eliminate odours & of course, brighten your whites!

First, start your washing machine, pour ½ cup baking soda into the water until it dissolves, then run the cycle as usual. For larger loads, use 1 cup baking soda.

5. Power of the sun:

When you finished washing your whites, skip the dryer & instead hang them out on the line for the sun to naturally brighten them. The sun will help bleach them without the harsh chemicals or the smell & save your clothes wear & tear & you money on your electricity bill.

6. Natural Laundry detergents:

Using harsh detergents & bleach will wear out even your strongest clothes quickly. Use natural, eco-friendly detergents & combine with any of the above to keep your whites bright.

We hope with these tips you can be looking as fresh & clean as the day you received your KindFamily clothes!
